A liter (L) is the most common metric unit for measuring liquid volume. One liter equals exactly 1,000 milliliters (mL), 1,000 cubic centimeters (cm³), or 1 cubic decimeter (dm³). The liter is accepted for use with the International System of Units (SI) alongside the cubic meter.
A liter is approximately the volume of a 10 cm × 10 cm × 10 cm cube — about the size of a standard water bottle.
